Visiting with Children

We love to see children enjoying the history and heritage of Elverhøj Museum! Our visitor services team can provide activity sheets for children to complete while visiting the Museum. Our docents also enjoy answering questions from our littlest learners. The Museum gardens offer the perfect spot to enjoy a snack or lunch and provide a great space for children to explore.

While enjoying Elverhøj Museum, talk about it! Here are some ideas to begin the discussion.

  1. Ask your children questions while looking at works of art and artifacts, such as: What do you see?  What do you think the purpose of this object is? How does this art make you feel?
  2. Put yourselves in someone else’s shoes. Imagine what it would be like to live the way that the early Danish settlers did.
  3. Look closely! Ask your children to name the colors, describe the texture, or list the materials that they see in the museum.
Explore the architecture of the Museum building. What do you think this room was used for? Do you notice any details that are unique to this house?
  4. Play I Spy. How many items can you find?
  5. Go on a scavenger hunt. See if you can find the Museum items pictured below.
  6. Be creative! Follow your child’s lead and create your own game or activity.
